New Law No. 21.734 authorizing the use of biometric technologies in air transportation in Chile

On May 2, 2025, Law No. 21,734 was published in the Official Gazette, which amends Decree Law No. 2460 that dictates the Organic Law of the Chilean Investigative Police (PDI), to expressly authorize the use of biometric authentication technologies in the identification of passengers in air transportation, both in international and domestic flights (the “Law No. 21,734”).

The new regulations are part of the efforts to modernize and strengthen immigration control and airport security mechanisms, incorporating advanced technological tools under personal data protection standards.
